Agree it was a great race bike, but when it came out I personally didn't like the looks, it was a big change from the previous models which from the 916 shared the single SSSA and the side by side headlights, wasn't too keen on the squared can too. At the time a mate had a 996 in Highland Spring colours and I loved that bike. The 999 was a massive visual change which grew on me over time, but never had the same attraction to me as the previous and later models.Oddly enough, the 999 is my second favorite Ducati behind the 899. The DSSA doesn't bother me at all. I've always considered the 999 the best Ducati superbike. It's certainly the most successful race bike they made, winning 3 WSBK titles with three different riders.
