Help!!! Any advice is welcome. I’m experiencing an issue whereby after start up, when I roll the throttle on (in neutral or in gear) and the revs reach 3000 rpm (exactly/consistently), the revs do a quick surge, blip, then it settles back to normal rpm per the actual throttle input. When I release the throttle and roll on again, it doesn’t repeat the behavior. It only does the surge/blip at 3000 rpm after initial key off re-restarts. From there on, it’s fine, aside from really twitchy, which I hear is a common thing.
Any ideas on what my be the cause of my issue. Currently when I start the bike I just roll on the throttle past 3K just the get that surge out of the way. Occasionally, I’ll forget and begin to roll off on the bike and when the issue happens, it nearly bucks me off the back of the bike.
Thanks in advance all.

My 899 has always had a weird intermittent throttle issue. I’ve just gotten into the habit of cleaning the throttle bodies and recalibrating the APS. The local shop by my house usually charges $75 for this. My symptoms would be at any, right after start, or during the ride.

In either event, if it’s a dead cold motor and you blip the throttle immediately after starting… the Rpm’s are going to hang a little. But if you are saying that your bike has this issue even after things are warmed up, I would recommend giving my method a try.

Thanks for the info.
Yeah, it doesn’t seem temperature related. The bike can be fully up to temp, but turn off the key, and it repeat. It’s strange for sure.

I had been throwing parts at it hoping something would cure it. So far I’ve replaced the throttle bodies along with both TPS. I’ve replaced both MAPS and reset the TPS and APS and nothing has changed the behavior. My next thought was to swap out the throttle control grip. The only mods are Termi slip-ons with an air filter. It was the Ducati kit so it came with the UPMAP and I had the dealership install it. I also thought about having them re-flash the ecu to stock and re-install the UPMAP to see it that has any effect.

I would dissasemble the throttle assembly just to check the condition of everything. My 899 never had any issues with being too sensitive, but if all else fails, I think your idea of having your dealer wipe and reinstall would work. You did mention that you've reset some parameters, was that using jpdiag? If yes, I believe it wipes the up-map when used with a bike that has an up-map installed.

Yes, I did use jpdiag. I’m going to give the wipe & re-install a shot. In the meantime, I’m going to give the throttle bodies I took off good clean and once over. If the wipe works, on the bright side, I’ll have spare throttle bodies along with an extra ECU and MAPS sensors on hand. Thank you for all of your input, I greatly appreciate it.

Hmm, that’s a good question. I frankly don’t know...
I just checked, no, it has been removed.
I doubt this has anything to do with your problem, but make sure it was removed properly and the lines were properly capped... I've seen very poor jobs when it comes to evap canisters, even by Ducati dealerships. On my 899 I removed all the lines, entirely, and plugged the vacuum ports directly on the engine (SS button-head hardware, copper washers and red Loctite). The vent line from the tank was re-routed with a "Y" junction into the overflow line, which is how non-US models come stock. Regardless, what you want to ensure is that your bike is not sucking air from the vacuum ports/lines.

It’s definitely worth taking a look to ensure everything is plugged up properly. Thanks for the advice.
