Check your right lower fairing near the exhaust pipe. I have heard of some Red 899s not having the spacer kit installed on the lower fairing causing the heat from the exhaust pipe to slowly melt it away. This was a problem with the 1199s which was resolved with the spacer kit.

Whoa, anyone got a pic of this spacer so I can be sure my bike has it? You know, being that they already forgot the gas filler cap tank seal, a couple washers, a hella loose coolant hose, and an oil leak on my bike  Haha, I really do fucking love this bike tho :D

I don't have a photo of the spacer. But if you look at the photos i have attached for reference. Left bike being my mates bike with no spacer and the right being how the fairing should sit.

My mate has had his lower fairing replaced under warranty and spacer kit installed.

I had a similar case..my case was excessive chain lube / motor oil from the workshop. Takes a a day or two from cleaning to having the excess burn off on its own. Not sure if its relevant but hope it helps. Other than that..try to inspect the bike near the exhaust pipe/links for a start.
