Obviously big brother 1199 could not sit by and watch the new darling baby 899 sop up all the glory so 1199 went and got itself some new clothes and a new attitude.

WTF am I jabbering on about? 1199 Panigale R Superleggera thats whut....

Looks like the 1199 went shopping in the MGP closet and pulled out Team Ducatis signature white fairing stripe. Truthfully the cosmetics are useless to the 1199 as everything important happened under the skin.

One Piece carbon subframe, forged magnesium wheels, carbon fiber heat shields, full titanium exhausts with carbon tips. Pistons and crank were trimmed to reach higher revs, oh power is north of 200, 205 to be exact and wrapped in a 341 lb package. For those interested that works out to 1.66 lbs/HP Oh yea only 500 to be made, ownership by invitation only..

Weight Reductions by Part:

Carbon Fiber Fairings and Assorted Pieces: -1.0kg / -2.2 lbs
Magnesium Alloy Monocoque Frame: -1.0kg / -2.2 lbs
Carbon Fiber Rear Subframe: -1.2 kg / -2.7 lbs
Titanium Exhaust System: -2.5kg / -5.5 lbs
Forged and Machined Magnesium Wheels: -1.0kg / -2.2lbs
Lithium-Ion Battery: -2.0 kg / -4.4lbs
Custom Front Fork and Rear Shock: 1.4 Kg / -3.1 lbs
Superbike Pistons: -194 g / -.4 lbs
Tungsten-Balanced Crankshaft: -396 g / -.9 lbs
WSBK Chain and Rear Sprocket, and Various Carbon Fiber Parts, Fasteners, and Machined-from-Billet Components: -1.3 kg / -2.9 lbs

Only a matter of time before we start seeing special 899s trickle in..

Its not even like you can buy this if you have $25k lying around. You have to be invited to own one. I've never even heard of that before. I wonder how they decide who gets one if it is not just money and desire that get you one.

Loyalty. Ferrari has done this for years. If you wanted to own an Enzo you had to of owned an F50 and an F40, and to own an F50 you needed to own an F40 ;)

Yes, Ferrari is the king of doing this, but I will say that there is always a way to get one of these vehicles (Ferrari, Ducati, whatever) without being a current / past owner. Usually takes a good relationship with a dealer and a lot of cash.

This is just one epic side shot, it's wallpaper worthy:

Amen.

We have a few of these coming through our doors. I can confirm the $65,000 price tag. The pre-order prerequisites are as follows

1. Panigale R owners
2. Panigale S Tricolore owners
3. Panigale S owners

so on and so forth...

Deposit required is 20% ($13,000) and last we heard there were less than 50 of the 500 production run available.

If you wanted one you were put on the list and Ducati will call you from Italy if you are selected to purchase one.
