I just installed the rear tire and noticed that the rear sprocket carrier is not sitting flush to the wheel. Is this normal for this bike?

My OCD is in the red zone looking at that gap.

I no longer have the 899 so I cannot check but I believe it's normal... the sprocket carrier has its own bearings and spacers, which ultimately determine its exact position relative to the wheel. In other words, if you remove the large pins that go into the rubber bushings, the carrier would still stay where it is and would not wobble... it would just spin freely on the axle. If you didn't mess with bearings or spacers, then likely there is nothing to worry about.
