Let me start off by saying that I'm currently on my first bike which is a 2012 Harley 883 Iron with now 27k miles. I've been looking at getting a sport bike for a while though since I've become more interested in technical handling and the prospect of track days vs. cruising around going 10 under the limit on a heavy La-Z-Boy with wheels. **** even my Sportster has clipon bars and rear sets at this point...

Needless to say I have lusted over the Monsters since I was in high school (27 now) but ever since I started riding about 2 years ago have only really considered the 675R and Street Triple. That's not to say the 1199 didn't catch my eye but I tended to avoid it due to my dealer only having the S's around which were so out of my price range that I wanted to avoid potential depression. While I liked the Triumphs they did lack a certain something both when simply sitting on them or on the test rides. What my Sportster lacks in refinement and speed it certainly makes up for in character. Not to mention it looking very different from the majority of Harleys.

Until one day when I said, "**** it.." and sat on a standard 1199 the dealer had gotten in. LIKE A GLOVE (Ace reference.) Something about the ergos just seemed to work better than the Daytona and Striple. I also fancied the idea of owning a Ducati since they are also never lacking in character (even if it is maintenance-wise a bit of the time.) The bike should feel special. The bike should make YOU feel special. The Panigale just does that. Of course even the base was just a little too pricey for me to consider...

...until the 899 was announced. Now since I am still paying off the Sportster and I use it as my primary transportation, I will probably stick it out for a while and get a used 899 a couple years out as a second bike but based on some of the early reviews I'm pretty excited about the prospect of a more streetable, daily-rider-friendly Panigale considering I only use motorcycles to get around.

I'm so looking forward to one in fact that I signed up here just to keep familiarized with the 899 before getting one. So excuse my being long-winded but if you made it this far thanks for reading.

P.S. - I plan on moving to Austin next year in case anyone noticed that my location is Naples, FL. Not much for sports down here, I'm aware.

Welcome to the forum. I guess the 899 becoming available helps you get closer to the 1199 you wanted. I can't wait to hear what reviewers will have to say about it compared to the 1199 although they are different bikes.
