I wanted something to replace my RC51 which I found too rough in the motor dept even with PCIII and every possible map. I love vee twins.. in the real world you can drop horsepower on in line 4's and keep up because you always have torque.

I test rode the 899 the day the dealer put it on the road. Did 40 miles on it and slammed the deposit on the table. Its more comfortable and rideable than the 748s was with a huge amount of usable power.

And it just looks soo drop dead good

I needed something other than a Harley to be able to enjoy the ride again, my back and hip need a replacement. So I just replaced the Harley with a Ducati because of the riding position and stress reliever for my back and hip. And I knew the 1199 was too much for me and I love the classier things in life. So the 899 fit the bill and the bill was paid! And thanks to my friend Marc for getting me the first slot for the white artic in Dallas.

She's a looker just picked up a white Pani 899 today and I am very happy with my purchase. The weather here in California couldn't be better for the new bike:) A fully loaded bike with all the technological advancements at a somewhat reasonable price who could ask for more...... What do you all think?

I got rear ended on my RSV4R and it's going to take a few months to get it fixed.
My mate works at a Ducati dealership so I had a chat to him, read reviews and then just put money down on the bike.
Rode the 1199 three times but couldn't justify the purchase and the 899 is what the Panigale should be like. I don't see the point of having anything over a litre sportsbike for the road.

Hey there. Would u mind sharing your opinion of the rsv4r and the 899 since u have them both. If u were to buy one for use on road and some track days. Which one will u choose and why?

Hi d3RiCk7,

The RSV4 and the 889 are totally different bikes and both have their pros and cons.
I find the Ape slightly more comfortable but hopefully the new rearsets will fix that problem and assist with the ergos.
The Ape has ridiculous power yet the fuelling and delivery is absolutely spot on for a litre bike. The 899 is no slouch and after coming off the Ape, power delivery and torque are much more useable and manageable on the road. It's nice to twist the throttle wide open without the front popping up all the time.

I haven't tracked the 899 yet but the Ape is an amazing machine on the track and feels at home there. I do however, have a suspicion that I will make up times both entering and exiting corners so i might actually ride the 899 faster on the track.c I am figuring that I will also save money in relation to new tyres on the 899. The Ape just chews through them.
The 899 has a narrower rear wheel than the Ape so every day riding, cornering etc is a little easier on the 899.

In relation to your question about which one I would choose for both the road and track - it's a tough one and without tracking the 899 it's hard to give a concise and truthful answer.
I guess in a realistic world, I would maybe go the 899 as the power and delivery is more suited for both conditions but it's a very close call. The Ape's power is wasted a bit on the road and I feel like I am riding it around at 20% the whole time.
In what little time I have had the 899, I have found that I am being slightly tamer on the throttle, or at least I think I am. With the Ape, you have so much power on hand that you just twist the throttle and you are doing warp factor 10.

Hope that info helps :)

Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it. Maybe u will have better input after your first track session. I have always wanted a RSV4 but the 899 is something that catches my fancy too. I am really tore apart between choosing them. However from what u say I get the impression that the 899 would be a better road bike and the rsv4 on the road is just basically not doing it justice. Hopefully will be able to get more info and see the 899 in person before I make a decision. It will only be launch in my home country later in the week. Haha.

I work for Audi and would back on a bike, Ducati was always a dream.
Suddenly Audi bought the Ducati brand and now I even had a reason.
So it was a perfectly "sensible" decision :D

The first time I saw the Panigale... I was in love <3
The first time I heard the sound of the engine...
I ordered... without a test drive or just a second of thinking it was a mistake!
And I would do it again! Such a great bike.

Waiting until Feb of next year for two reasons...

(1) by then my Harleys will be paid off and will not be an issue justifying the expense with the wife (yeah, yeah, make jokes about it... but happy wife = happy life)

(2) should know what, if any, changes are for the 2015 line up

Deciding on the Panigale was a no brainer... sex sells... and this bike is one heck of a sexy and engineering porn/art exercise. Color was an easy choice as well, red, of course. But what has not been easy is 899 or 1199S... I just love all the additional stuff found on the 'S'... but I then read reviews of folks riding them back to back, and for street use the 899 is best so that day I tell myself that the 899 is the way to go... then I read a review of someone else that sees no issues using the 1199S on a daily basis and I go to that side...

The beauty of it all is that they are almost identical bikes... so I am buying a few things ahead of getting the bike... so those will fit either one.

So yeah... still not decided on which of the two Panigale... but a Panigale will be in my garage next year, that was an easy decision. :)
