I decided after doing some test rides this summer of Triumph 675, Speed Triple, Monsters, 848, Diavel, 1199 Pani, kawi636 and rsv aprilia.
Never thought I would buy a bike without testriding first but after the 1199 testride everything felt right(except the insane power and heat) so when they announced the 899 i could see this would be the bike most suitable for me
Seen the first photo of the bike and ordered from that. At that stage no price or delivery date. MmWas going to purchase the F3 before the rumors of the 899 started.
The reviews love it. None of the 600's really tingle my balls and a 1000 would be too much for my ability. This will be my last bike purchase for the next few years.
So for supermids that look awesome it was the MV Agusta F3 800 and the 899.
MV has a bad wrap, and the 899 is the peoples champion. My deposit is down and now I play the waiting game.
Red of course. I like the white (I was 50/50 and unsure) but that weird matt white finish paint looks more trouble then its worth in the long run.
I was always a Honda guy and I thought Ducati was all hype and overpriced. Hondas that I've been on (CBs, CBRs, RC-51, VfR1200F) are all great and I enjoyed them. I rode a 748S and hated the ergos, so I never really considered a Duc. Then I rode an 1198 on track and fell in love. It was so much more enjoyable of an experience than anything I've been on (except the RC-51, that was great). I decided to buy a Duc at that point but I really didn't like the 7,500mile valve adjustment intervals. I was hoping Ducati would make a replacement for the 848 that was faster, lighter and more advanced with lower maintenance costs. They did, and I bought it as soon as I saw it.
Read the reviews, watched the videos and eventually test rode one today. Think I'd already made my mind up thought, but the test ride confirmed it. Deposit down so now just a case of waiting for it to arrive.....
1199 was too expensive and powerful for me. I just couldn't justify it, but I can justify the 899 Panigale. That is doable. It's still fairly expensive but it isn't as bad. In the end the 899 Panigale goes far faster than any speed limit I will be coming into contact with. I am also looking into KTMs, but it is harder to find them around.
I test rode a new 1199S and the power delivery was brutal in the midrange and down low compared to the K7 GSXR 1000/R1/ZX10R's that i have owned.
899 has equivalent HP to a gixxer 750 with more torque, better handling and electronics. Easy decision really to go with the 899. Plus i could not justify the extra $7k here in Australia for the 1199 over the 899.
I decided to get a Ducati after attending the Red Bull Grand Prix in Monterey, this past summer. I put a deposit down in October for the 899 and picked it up the day after Thanksgiving. Naturally i chose red. But the thing that gets me is, why put the red rims on the arctic white and black on the red one? Don't get me wrong, i like mine very much but I wonder if there are others that feel the same way as i do. If there was someone near me that wanted to trade rims, I'd do it in a heart beat. I can only imagine what they go for from Ducati. Powder coating is another option but I don't know if they would color match exactly. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks for reading and happy riding to all
After having really al lot of fun on my Monster 1100S for 3,5 years I decided to buy a midrange supersport bike.
I did some test rides on 848 Evo and MV Agustas F3, but that was not what I wanted. Then came the baby pan and first I was disappointed because of the missing single swing arm. But after reading some reviews, looking at the photos and watching videos I made my decision.
Well I do a bit of moonlighting in a dealers, and I test ride most the bikes, so I went away for a couple of months to Kenya knowing that when i got home the 899 would be out so I asked to take it out and there it was sold LOL
Not enough sleep, too much coffee and I sat in the showroom on a chair and gazed at it. The husband, who had talked me into driving two hours to look at it wasn't making a move to put money down and I had fallen for it! Done deal! Test drove it and still love it...
I wanted something to replace my RC51 which I found too rough in the motor dept even with PCIII and every possible map. I love vee twins.. in the real world you can drop horsepower on in line 4's and keep up because you always have torque.
I test rode the 899 the day the dealer put it on the road. Did 40 miles on it and slammed the deposit on the table. Its more comfortable and rideable than the 748s was with a huge amount of usable power.
I needed something other than a Harley to be able to enjoy the ride again, my back and hip need a replacement. So I just replaced the Harley with a Ducati because of the riding position and stress reliever for my back and hip. And I knew the 1199 was too much for me and I love the classier things in life. So the 899 fit the bill and the bill was paid! And thanks to my friend Marc for getting me the first slot for the white artic in Dallas.
She's a looker just picked up a white Pani 899 today and I am very happy with my purchase. The weather here in California couldn't be better for the new bike A fully loaded bike with all the technological advancements at a somewhat reasonable price who could ask for more...... What do you all think?
I got rear ended on my RSV4R and it's going to take a few months to get it fixed.
My mate works at a Ducati dealership so I had a chat to him, read reviews and then just put money down on the bike.
Rode the 1199 three times but couldn't justify the purchase and the 899 is what the Panigale should be like. I don't see the point of having anything over a litre sportsbike for the road.
Hey there. Would u mind sharing your opinion of the rsv4r and the 899 since u have them both. If u were to buy one for use on road and some track days. Which one will u choose and why?
The RSV4 and the 889 are totally different bikes and both have their pros and cons.
I find the Ape slightly more comfortable but hopefully the new rearsets will fix that problem and assist with the ergos.
The Ape has ridiculous power yet the fuelling and delivery is absolutely spot on for a litre bike. The 899 is no slouch and after coming off the Ape, power delivery and torque are much more useable and manageable on the road. It's nice to twist the throttle wide open without the front popping up all the time.
I haven't tracked the 899 yet but the Ape is an amazing machine on the track and feels at home there. I do however, have a suspicion that I will make up times both entering and exiting corners so i might actually ride the 899 faster on the track.c I am figuring that I will also save money in relation to new tyres on the 899. The Ape just chews through them.
The 899 has a narrower rear wheel than the Ape so every day riding, cornering etc is a little easier on the 899.
In relation to your question about which one I would choose for both the road and track - it's a tough one and without tracking the 899 it's hard to give a concise and truthful answer.
I guess in a realistic world, I would maybe go the 899 as the power and delivery is more suited for both conditions but it's a very close call. The Ape's power is wasted a bit on the road and I feel like I am riding it around at 20% the whole time.
In what little time I have had the 899, I have found that I am being slightly tamer on the throttle, or at least I think I am. With the Ape, you have so much power on hand that you just twist the throttle and you are doing warp factor 10.
Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it. Maybe u will have better input after your first track session. I have always wanted a RSV4 but the 899 is something that catches my fancy too. I am really tore apart between choosing them. However from what u say I get the impression that the 899 would be a better road bike and the rsv4 on the road is just basically not doing it justice. Hopefully will be able to get more info and see the 899 in person before I make a decision. It will only be launch in my home country later in the week. Haha.
I work for Audi and would back on a bike, Ducati was always a dream.
Suddenly Audi bought the Ducati brand and now I even had a reason.
So it was a perfectly "sensible" decision
The first time I saw the Panigale... I was in love <3
The first time I heard the sound of the engine...
I ordered... without a test drive or just a second of thinking it was a mistake!
And I would do it again! Such a great bike.
(1) by then my Harleys will be paid off and will not be an issue justifying the expense with the wife (yeah, yeah, make jokes about it... but happy wife = happy life)
(2) should know what, if any, changes are for the 2015 line up
Deciding on the Panigale was a no brainer... sex sells... and this bike is one heck of a sexy and engineering porn/art exercise. Color was an easy choice as well, red, of course. But what has not been easy is 899 or 1199S... I just love all the additional stuff found on the 'S'... but I then read reviews of folks riding them back to back, and for street use the 899 is best so that day I tell myself that the 899 is the way to go... then I read a review of someone else that sees no issues using the 1199S on a daily basis and I go to that side...
The beauty of it all is that they are almost identical bikes... so I am buying a few things ahead of getting the bike... so those will fit either one.
So yeah... still not decided on which of the two Panigale... but a Panigale will be in my garage next year, that was an easy decision.
