How many others are getting the underside of the tail unit covered in chain grease/oil.

I have done almost 700 miles and had the first service , obviously it's better than having a dry chain but it's bloody messy

Use a wax based lubricant. It will stay on the chain better. Make sure you wipe down the chain with WD40 before application. It will remove the old surface lubricant. You can also use WD on the underside of the tail cover. Spray it on the rag not the tail cover and wipe it down. It will provide a barrier and ease cleaning.
