I think that most people see Ducati as the top of the industry in bikes. Problem is that Ducati doesn't play ball at all in the lower displacement bike segments. If it did, it could really dominate the whole industry. Do you think that could happen sometime in the near future?
I think if they made a cheaper , smaller engine machine it would still be out of the reach of a newbie biker price wise and may dilute the brand. A little like Ferrari making a sports hatchback.
Well...I am very interested to see how the new KTM RC390 turns out (especially price wise). I'd say KTM is a premium brand that does well in the small bike category. How cool would it be if Ducati came out with a new Supermono to compete with these new high performance entry level bikes (Ninja 300, CBR 500, FZ6R, aforementioned RC390).

Probably a pipe dream but who knows.... didn't think Ducati would come out with a cruiser or Porsche would make an SUV either.

I just don't believe this diluting the brand BS. The best brands make bikes at the top and bottom of the market. Look at Honda or Yamaha or KTM. Brands like BMW and Ducati sell great bikes but they are missing out on a whole section of the market by not offering anything that's affordable.

In Australia Ducati has a 659 Monster which is a barely LAMS Qualified Motorcycle (for the overseas readers that means Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme; it is the learner category in Australia based on a specific power / weight ratio that all new motorcyclists must sit in for at least 12-36 months based on age).

My GF rides one and it looks amazing, goes like the clappers, and is the most expensive & premium bike in that class.

Ducati are alive and well in the entry market. They just need to bring that overseas if the demand is there.

Yes, I agree on the RC390. A serious consideration for a track only bike. Not looked at performance specs and has potential for real fun riding for not being too mental on power. Especially as here in HK if not registered for road use, you don't pay any tax so will be about US$6,000.
A Panigale 499 or something would be cool!
