I just took out my battery for the first time after buying my 899. I was surprised to see a loose looking box hooked up to the battery. It was hooked up directly to the red and black terminals and had a white wire hooked into another part of the bike. It has a green light that is blinking despite being disconnected from the battery. I tired googling the part number on the black box and got nothing. Does anyone know what this thing is?!

A quick Google search on the (partial) part number brought back this, which seems exactly what you have (a GPS tracking device):
Regardless if you bought the bike new or used (dealer or private party), you might want to reach out and ask for details, maybe it's something you can keep and use. You can also try to contact Linxup (seems a legit company) and explain to them you found one of their devices on your bike, and you would like to take advantage of it. They might ask you for proof of ownership but might be able to do something for you. If all this fails, unplug it and toss it, no reason to have it hooked up to your battery (it might not use much power, but it certainly uses some...).

Thank you. That's exactly what it is. Looks like it's a very cooperate tracking device and you need an account with an associated monthly fee. Not worth it for me so its getting disconnected.

Could it perhaps be a GPS lap timer for a track day? Or is it to be able to track the bike in case it is stolen? Interesting find, thanks for sharing!
