Just drove her home yesterday, my second ducati, and I am now a new 899 owner. I went in ready to buy last years R6 at a nice price, but the major factor for me was insurance. I have been riding for more than 24 years and have no accidents, but that R6 insurance was crazy.
Another selling point was the demo. I was able to hear the sound of the 899 and feel the grunt, which both were amazing. It has everything and more than my first ducati ... the 1098. It does have heat, but it is different. I noticed on the demo ride that while waiting at red lights, the heat disappeared on the right thigh. It does return while riding, but at least there is air flow. I noticed a metal lined seat and a double lined heat shield, which I could actually touch.
One thing that I noticed on my ride home was a sound the bike makes when rolling off the throttle. Does anyone know this sound and whether it is normal. It is more like an "errk" sound.
The quickshifter is awesome. As a former racer, a real nice feature.
I ended up going with Rider Insurance. At $290 / year, ALL other insurance agencies are smoking crack with some over 2K. Has anyone had to make a claim with them and how was the service?
Now if the weather would just agree, I could get some miles on this bike.
