I'm making the ride from Brisbane down to Phillip Island and back again. I've got two weeks off to complete this adventure (with some rest days by the beach) and 3 days at the track for the MotoGP.

So far I have 3 riders interested doing this ride from Brisbane. I thought I would post here to see if anyone else was making the journey, and to get ideas on the route to scope out some ideal / favourite roads from you guys here to incorporate into the ride.

Any advice would be great.

I'll be updating this topic often with more info as we work it out. But we need to work out the travel plans, the route, where we are staying overnight and where to do the rest days. The sooner this is published the earlier everyone can get their s**t sorted. That's where local knowledge from this community comes in. What are some cool roads that we must do in NSW?, where would you stay, where are some good places for an ale?

The SE Qld Street Riders have a small Facebook group where we organise monthly group rides and group track days. There is about 10 of us turning up to events which is a good number and its been fun so far. Its worth checking out if your into the group ride thing. Send me a PM if your interested.

Anyway, feel free to spread the word. The more the merrier. It'll be nice to have some fellow riders for this trip.

Hey there, wish I was able to go to the GP. Very jealous .....

If you find yourself going down the Monaro Highway call into Bombala, an awesome little NSW country town. I would thoroughly recommend staying at the Globe, a bike friendly pub in town. A GREAT place to stay, and there are several options riding from there.
I went straight down to Cann River on the way to the Grand Prix, but you can go across to Merimbula or Eden on the coast then down and I am sure there are PLENTY more options.
Talk to the locals when you get there, they are more than happy to share knowledge. I enjoyed my stay there that much we reorganised our return route to stay again 😎

Cheers,
Darryl.

On your way down or back you need to make sure you do the Oxley Highway from Port Macquarie. Easily the best road in NSW, it's like 45 minutes of non stop corners with a speed limit of 100kph so you can easily get over 220 around there.

Down through Bombala and make your way through the Snowy Mountains down to Orbost and then the Princes Hwy/Sth Gippsland Hwy to Phillip Island.

Some sublime roads from the Snow down to Orbost.

I'll be at the Island so feel free to PM me your deets and I can put a face to Boba Fett.

Thoughts?

Feel free to change destinations / routes in Google maps and then re-upload in here.

The goal as mentioned is to ride the best roads native to NSW and VIC. I have never done a ride like this so all advice is welcome.

Once we get the route confirmed I can work out where we'll stop for the nights, and try to break the journey up into manageable chunks.

Thanks for your input guys, it's invaluable.

i know I'm adding k's here - but I've made a couple of adjustments to your map.

Agree on the Oxley Highway - that is an unmissable bit of road. In fact if you have time do it to Port Mac, turn round and do it the other way and then head south further inland - maybe Thunderbolts way from Walcha (although this is very bumpy in sections).

Further south I pulled you inland to do the Putty Road south of Singleton - a great bit of road.

Skip round Sydney (unless you plan to stop) and then try to take in more of the Snowy's. Go further on the Hume Highway past Gundagai and then head south for some spectacular high country roads. If you have time this is a spectacular section.

We are heading down from Sydney but sorted route yet.

You will have a ball no matter what route you choose.

Have fun mate!
