Akrapovic makes really nice exhaust systems. It comes as little surprise then that Akrapovic's Ducati Panigale exhausts have won recognition with the Best of the Best Red Dot Award for 2014.

Akrapovic won the Best of the Best in the Product design category thanks to its Evolution Line Titanium full exhaust system created for the Ducati 1199 Panigale.

Akrapovic beat out over 4,800 other products from 1,800 manufacturers from 33 countries in order to win the prize. You can see the exhaust system at the Red Dot Museum in Singapore, and it will be included in the Red Dot Design Yearbook 2014/2015.

This exhaust was made for the 1199 Panigale, but I would guess you could use it on the 899 Panigale as well. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't get me wrong... I think Akrapovic make *awesome* exhausts.

However, the reddot 'expert jury' also reviews 'gardens, bathrooms, and spas.' I think I would give them as much credibility of judging an exhaust design as my grandmother. Actually, my granny used to ride a Triumph all over the Isle of Wight back in the day, so I would have to give her more cred.

Red Dot Online: The expert jury has chosen - the winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014 have been announced

Joking aside, I am anxiously waiting to hear just how Ducati will be leveraging the recently announced partnership with Akrapovic. I have Termi's on my Monster and am circling the Panigale like a vulture.

the 1199 akropovic exhaust is quiet, even by their own website's test samples. Without doing decibel comparisons of the streams they let you listen to, i'd say its about 20% quieter than stock.

Akrapovi?

Regardless of if you think red dot is qualified to choose a winner for a category like this, would you choose the akrapovic exhaust for an award? Do you think there is some other brand that deserves it more?

Akra: 110db at 5375

But i'll find out in the flesh this friday. As i am having my full Akra system fitted.

Yes they announced partnership with the Ducati GP Team, not Ducati Performance. Akrapovic has been building exhausts for the Ducati for several decades. There has been no falling out with Termignoni and Ducati contracts with many suppliers for; carbon fiber, exhausts, electronics, rearsets, suspensions, etc. They have always enjoyed a great relationship with Termignoni and I believe it will remain that way.

There's been no remarks or statements from Ducati suggesting or eluding to dropping Termignoni as a supplier and I don't imagine there will be.

I do agree with you regarding Red Dot, they're nothing but an information clearing house, without much impact on anything.;)

There appears to be a lot of speculation here and on the other Panigale 899/1199 forums (including members who are Ducati dealers) that the partnership might blossom into something more especially considering the Superleggera has the Akrapovic exhaust instead of the Termignoni.

I realize that Akrapovic have been making exhausts that fit Ducati bikes just as Termignoni make exhausts that fit other brands as well. I am just curious to see what might be coming along...

That's exactly what it is, speculation nothing more. People just want to make it more than it really is. Show me one article where Ducati has stated, they will be dropping Termignoni as a Ducati Performance part supplier.......................... Don't bother I'll save you some time, there isn't.

The only reason Akrapovic is even getting a smell with Ducati is; Audi Racing likes there subsidiaries (like Ducati Racing) to use their own sponsors and sponsorships. End of story.

I wouldn't waste to much time with it, it's already out there for Akrapovic and Termignoni. It's business as usual.

I don't believe that I ever said that Ducati was going to necessarily drop Termignoni as a DP supplier... aren't Dainese, REVVIT, Arai, and AGV all OEM manufactures of Ducati branded equipment?

I think that one of the desired outcomes of the relationship is that Ducati will support Akrapovic with regards to up maps and warranty issues.

I am not out to prove it one way or another, so you aren't saving me any time. I am just going to continue to observe the forums and periodicals. If you feel that I am wasting my time in doing so, then so be it. That is my choice just as it is yours to know that it is a nonissue.

There may not be much of a huge difference in the Db level, but the looks after some ride time , is unreal! The blue showing through the faring, and under the carbon fiber heat shield, make this a beautiful system to add on! Not to mention, the great attention to detail along with the nice throttle response added from the full exhaust. Just my opinion though...:D

Cool your jets bud, you're going to have a aneurism.

I believe I've already hinted Ducati uses many manufactures as suppliers. Adding Akrapovic is just another step forward for Audi/Ducati. If Audi wasn't in the mix, it wouldn't have happened. Hasn't happened with DP yet, so I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

Just pull the DB killers and you'll have all the sound you want. Akrapovic's DB killers are easy to remove.

It seems that only you and your grandma don’t know that Ducati Moto GP bikes are already equipped with the best of the best: Akrapovic exhaust system. How come you haven’t noticed their massive presence in World Superbike Championship in last couple of years?

Hey that's funny...I like your sense of humor!

However, if you read the thread a little bit more closely, you will determine that what we are discussing is how the Akrapovic announcement could potentially influence Ducati supported aftermarket exhausts for the Panigale 899, 1199, etc. product lines and perhaps even other Ducati models.

Come back when you have some better material.

Hello Sinjin! I am glad you didn't take my comment the wrong way, ha-ha. I am sorry if I was a little too hard on you. I know Igor Akrapovič, a Slovenian racer, personally. He was one of the best Yugoslavian road-racing Champions in 1970s. I have been following his success in the production of high-quality exhaust systems since the beginning. His success is huge. No other product got the world class recognition from any Slavic country before. His achievements are extraordinary! So my point was that you shouldn’t be mocking them getting this “award” from Reddot or any judges for that matter - it is well deserved and I am sure Ducati will leverage this new partnership well in their favor.

Akrapovi?

Well, according to the article, the Evolution Line exhaust system will be made available for the 2015 Panigale with mapping in February of next year. The exhaust will feature a co-branded logo sealing the relationship between DP and Akrapovic.

Hopefully, this will lead to more systems being made available with support from Ducati including warranty coverage and up maps for the 899.

It seems to me that this is redefining the relationship between the two companies and it is no longer business as usual. Of course, there is no indictation that Termignoni will be dropped considering their recent announcement of a revolutionary muffler design, but it does bring into question what choices will be made available in the coming months.

Very exciting times in the superbike industry.

So Ducati confirm the after market exhaust for the 1299 will be the Akrapovic, expect they will ditch Termignoni for Akrapovic for the 899 as well. My only problem with the Akrapovic is the price it's around £1,000 more expensive than the Termi system, unworkable!!
