Aussies!!! Termis db Level.

Hey Guys.

Could any aussies on here, who've already got the termi exhaust fitted, comment on whether they've had any trouble with the law for it being too loud?

The stock cans have a rating of 108 db (i think), but how much louder (in db's) are the termi pipes? and has anyone been pulled over for being too loud and then been fined?

Please help!!

Me too Mate,I'm in Perth and I've fitted the sound reducers that come with the Termis but I've no access to a DB meter to know. I love the sound and the look of the Termis so I'm prepared to take the risk + plus I hate the idea of cats on Bikes.

Another Perth Duke here and I've had no issues. Been past plenty of cop cars with and without the DB Killers in and never had any grief from the law. Touch wood.

Compared to some of the Harleys around an 899 with open Termis is quiet.....

I got questioned about my OEM exhuast at a RBT stop once. Office said it was pretty loud, but told him bike was total standard ;-)
Other than that no other problems

Thanks guys!

Would anyone on this forum have the db levels for the Termis with and without the DB killers??

Found this info from a Govt website:

Noise from motor vehicles certified in accordance
with ADR 83/00:
For the purposes of sections 48B and 48D(3A) of
the Act, the prescribed standard for a motor
vehicle certified in accordance with ADR 83/00 is
that the vehicle must not emit noise exceeding, by
more than 5 dB(A), the stationary noise level
established for that vehicle when it was certified.

Hi Guys,

I am based in Sydney and run Termis with no baffles.

I actually reckon they are quieter at idle than standard cans (well almost)

That being said, if the law says no more than 5db louder than spec which you guys is saying 108db, that would make it 113db

113db, is bloody loud no matter which way you slice it...

Happy for anyone to contest what I'm saying as I am interested in how this would work as its inevitable that the Police is going to ask me the question one day...

I have a DB tester and am in Melbs if anyone wants to use it. My RSV4 is about 109db and that's with a pipe on it - straight thru system. Never had a problem with the law though which baffles me. Got a warning for my 899 and got a ticket on my old 848 with Termis.

Happy to do a DB test on anyones bike.

My dealer said at the time I purchased my bike that any mods or any changes other than OEM I could be liable to fine when stopped by a cop regardless... But who knows...

Just remember that it all depends on how you were riding your bike when pulled over.

Termis improve a lot the performance overall of the 899, no question about that, it's just how a Ducati really should sound like : ) I'm happy with mine and so far no problem at all with the law.

The dealer has to say that otherwise they are liable for selling you a 'non compliant' bike.

I reckon it comes down to who pulls you over and potentially if the police are on a noise blitz.

People have been booked while going down to the coffee shop around the corner for pipes, and some people have been let off being both over the speed limit and with non OEM exhaust..

Meanwhile there are a bunch of trucks spewing black smoke out of their exhaust with motors the size of a small bathrooms pulling a second trailer behind them through the main streets of Sydney.

We are debating +/- 5db... go figure
